Wayne Nastri is the executive officer for the South Coast Air Quality Management District. He was selected as acting executive officer in April 2016 and appointed to the permanent position in December 2016.
From 2001-2009 Nastri was U.S. EPA’s Regional Administrator for Region 9–Southwest Region, responsible for policy development and operations, with nearly 1,000 employees and an annual budget exceeding $700 million. His work included diesel emission reduction efforts through development and implementation of the West Coast Diesel Collaborative, in which SCAQMD actively participates.
He served as the Governor’s Appointee on the SCAQMD Governing Board from 1997-1998.
Nastri also served on Cal/EPA’s Department of Toxic Substances Control site mitigation external advisory committee, California Air Resources Board’s zero-emission vehicle implementation advisory committee, and Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment’s site manager’s advisory committee. He also served as the legislative director for the California Environmental Business Council.
Nastri holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Irvine.
