Carla J. Peterman was appointed to the California Public Utilities Commission by Governor Brown in 2012. She is the assigned commissioner for proceedings realted to energy efficiency and storage, alternative transportation, and several rate cases. Peterman serves on many boards including NARUC and the California Broadband Council. She was Chair of the Plug-in Electric Vehicle Collaborative for 2012-2013.
She was appointed to the California Energy Commission by Governor Brown in 2011 where she was lead commissioner for renewables, transportation and natural gas.
Peterman has conducted research at the University of California Energy Institute and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and was an investment banker focused on energy financing at Lehman Brothers.
Peterman holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Energy and Resources from UC Berkeley. She also earned MS and MBA degrees from Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar. Peterman holds a BA in History from Howard University.
